For the longest time I’ve been wanting to build some kind of Mech frame in the Exploriens theme where I could used the minifig head in the trademark gray helmet. I was imagining a General Grievous situation where the body was damaged and the existing organs/head were grafted on to a robot body.
There was a lot of research I did for building a mech and this MOC is loosely based on u/the_sylince’s computer model called the Super Frame Basic Core. I found from his reddit history that he’s using a browser based modeller called Mecabricks. Now…why is it relevant that he made a computer model of this instead of building it with bricks? From what I found, a lot of his connections are too finicky. They are all legal connections, however, the grip strength of some of the pieces leaves a lot to be desired. The pieces for the elbows and the kneecaps in particular. I also completely re-engineered the torso to add some bulk and make the model look more human.
The shoulder pad/wings are a big homage to anime series like Mobile Suit Gundam and Neon Genesis Evangelion. If you got this far down into the post, kudos to you. I just noticed a flat panel piece is off kilter on the leg in all of the pictures and I’ll be darned if I’m going to go back and reshoot these photos. We’ll just say it was a “happy little accident” as Bob Ross would say.
