Shoe Bench

After much success with completing the Buffet table, I had my sights set on completing another companion piece. Our room was desperately lacking a bench to sit on and a place to store shoes near the door. Back to the SketchUp I went and I hobbled together this model of a bench to illustrate to my father-in-law what I intended to build. He provided some suggestions about the sides and shelving section of the piece, leading us filling in the side and back with wooden frame panels instead of spindles as shown in the mock-up. As the piece is constructed of red oak, even without the spindles on the side, the piece matches nicely with the other red oak pieces in the room.

My rough draft sketch with some initial measurements roughed in.
A second sketch with some more measurements roughed in.
A three up view of the Bench project as I first imagined it.
My mother-in-law sewed the cushion together and it makes a perfect accent to the red oak bench. The soft cushion makes it easier to sit on this wooden bench when you put on your shoes before leaving the house. It is also cat approved!
